What's New with Version 2.0
Novell Storage Manager™ (NSM) 2.0 contains numerous code updates developed since the release of the File System Factory™ (FSF) 1.21 product in May 2004. Version 2.0 also contains a variety of new features and capabilities over the FSF 1.21 release. All customers are highly encouraged to begin using NSM 2.0 and its new Admin Interface (NSMAdmin). Updates and New Features in Version 2.0
Novell Storage Manager™ 2.0 includes the following changes from the base FSF 1.21 product release:
New Features
- Native support for Micrsoft Windows networks provides full integration for user events in Active Directory and management of users' home folders or profiles.
- Advanced WAN support via NSM Sentinels provides distributed processing of NSM tasks, reducing the load on the NSM Engine.
- Advanced Storage Reports System allows users to create current reports on various file properties.
- New policy-based Vault rules allow vaulting of deleted users' home directories/folders to a given vault location.
- New policy-based Vault rules allow transitioning of user storage between high-cost and low-cost storage via policy-based Vaulting rules.
- New policy-based Vault rules provide for file grooming and scrubbing of managed user storage during user data moves or in-place backfill operations.
- Improved policy inheritance control including block policies, single container policies, and weighting of policies inherited via group memberships.
- Enhanced administration tool provides GUI-based administration with less navigation than the previous web interface.
- New administration tool written in .NET for compatibility with MONO, with plans to eventually run on mulitple platforms.
- NetStorage integration now available through Storage Location Objects for collaborative storage on Novell platforms.
- Global User Reconnect provides a retention and recovery option for deleted users' storage
- Enhanced Event Monitor and Sentinel console allows easier determination of directory replica coverage and target storage Sentinel deployment.
