Unicode Support

Novell Storage Manager™ now provides limited Unicode support for file and directory names on NSS volumes for NetWare and OES Linux. The support comes in two versions: Basic Unicode Support and Enhanced Unicode Support.

Basic Unicode Support

Basic Unicode support provides Novell Storage Manager the ability to manage files and directories with Unicode characters in their names. These files and directories must be underneath a currently managed path, such as a user's home directory, a group home directory, or a template or vault path.

Requirements

Basic Unicode support with Novell Storage Manager has the following requirements:

• Novell Storage Manager Engine (FSFEngin.NLM) 2.00.07 or later.
• Novell Storage Manager Sentinel (FSFEvent.NLM) 2.00.07 or later.
• NSM Engine running on NetWare 6.5 sp2 or later
• Target storage servers running NetWare 6.5 sp2 or later / OES Linux sp1 or later

Limitations

Basic Unicode support with Novell Storage Manager has the following limitations:

• Cannot preserve trustees of files and directories named with Unicode characters.
  This would occur any time a user's home directory needs to move, and a subdirectory or file in his home directory had both Unicode naming and an explicit trustee assigned to it.
  This could also occur with explicit trustees assigned to a file or directory having Unicode naming inside a template path, or for vaulted files.
• Only subpaths, not managed or target paths, are allowed to have Unicode characters.
  (See section on Path Limitations for more detail.)
• Cannot manage user or collaborative storage for objects with Unicode character names.
  (This applies to the naming attribute of a user or group, which is CN, not the Given Name or Surname attributes.)

Enhanced Unicode Support

Enhanced Unicode support provides the same management as basic Unicode support, with the addition of preserving trustees on files and subdirectories with Unicode naming.

Requirements

Enhanced Unicode support has the following requirements:

• Novell Storage Manager Engine (FSFENGIN.NLM) 2.00.07 or later
• Novell Storage Manager Sentinel (FSFEVENT.NLM) 2.00.07 or later
• NSM Engine running on NetWare 6.5 sp6 or later
• NSM Sentinels running on NetWare 6.5 sp6 or later
• Target storage servers running NetWare 6.5 sp2 or later / OES Linux sp1 or later

Limitations

Enhanced Unicode support has the following limitations:

• Only subpaths, not managed or target paths, are allowed have Unicode characters.
  (See section on Path Limitations for more detail.)
• Cannot manage user or collaborative storage for objects with Unicode character names
  (This applies to the naming attribute of a user or group, which is CN, not the Given Name or Surname attributes.)
