Unicode Support
Necessity of Unicode Support
Starting with NetWare 6.5 sp2, clients have had the option to name files and directories with Unicode extended characters. Although many users have not purposely named their files or directories with extended characters, some applications, such as Microsoft® Word™ will auto-save files with the initial content of the document, which in many cases does contain extended characters — most notably this is seen with the inclusion of “curly quotes” that appear around the name of some document files.
Conditions for Unicode Naming
In order for users to create files or directories with Unicode character naming, the following conditions must exist:
- Files and directories must exist on an NSS volume on NetWare 6.5 sp2 or later or OES Linux
- Clients must access the server with Novell Client 4.9 sp2 or later
