Novell Storage Manager 3.0.2 Released
Enhancements to Cross-Empire Data Migration Subsystem
(June 17, 2011)
This product update includes significant enhancements to how the Cross-Empire Data Migration subsystem in Novell Storage Manager for Active Directory manages folder ownership and security rights during a data migration.
Prior to migrating data, you now specify folder and file rights from the source Novell network to the target Microsoft network using an identity mapping interface.
A new rights mapping interface in the Cross-Empire Data Migration add-on lets you view and modify rights between the source Novell network and the target Microsoft network.
These new enhancements are documented in detail in the Novell Storage Manager 3.0.2 for Active Directory Administration Guide.
The Administration Guide for both the Novell eDirectory and Microsoft Active Directory platforms has been updated with a new chapter: .Managing Existing Collaborative Storage."
Novell Storage Manager 3.0.1 Released
Cross-Empire Data Migration and Microsoft DFS Namespace Support Introduced
(February 23, 2011)
This product update includes significant product enhancements for both the Microsoft Active Directory and Novell eDirectory versions of the product.
New to Novell Storage Manager 3.0.1:
- Cross-Empire Data Migration for Active Directory networks
- Microsoft DFS namespace support for Active Directory networks
- Action Objects for eDirectory networks
- Copy Policy Data for Active Directory and eDirectory networks
- Export Policy for Active Directory and eDirectory networks
- Bug fixes
Cross-Empire Data Migration: A subsystem within Novell Storage Manager that allows for the movement of file system data between storage infrastructures on different platforms governed by different identity and security frameworks. You can perform the following types of data copying:
- User to User
- Folder to User
- Group to Group
- Folder to Group
- Folder to Folder
Action Objects: To enable the automation of very distinct storage actions outside of what is practical with Novell Storage Manager policies, Novell Storage Manager 3.0.1 for eDirectory includes new Action Objects APIs. Action Objects enable specific actions in coordination with other applications that manage through eDirectory or LDAP. One such example is Novell Identity Manager.
Copy Policy Data: Allows you to copy all or a portion of the policy settings of one policy into another policy.
Export Policy: Provides the ability to export policies so that they can be imported later.
Import Policy: Provides the ability to import policies that were previously exported.
Bug Fixes: Detailed in the Novell Storage Manager 3.0.1 Release Notes. For more information on each of the product enhancements mentioned above, refer to the updated Novell Storage Manager 3.0.1 documentation set at: http://www.novell.com/documentation/storagemanager3/

Novell Storage Manager 2.5.2 Released
(April 23, 2010)
This product update compliments the release of Novell File Reporter 1.0.1 and its support of reporting on NAS devices and server clusters in via proxy agents, in environments that include Novell File Reporter and Novell Storage Manager.
This product update also includes several bug fixes.
Novell Storage Manager 2.5 SP1 Released
Novell Storage Manager 2.5 SP1 includes significant product enhancements that make the automation of user and collaborative file-based storage management both easier and powerful. Here is a summary of some of the more notable product enhancements that will make you want to download Novell Storage Manager 2.5 SP1 today!
New Interface for Active Directory
NSMAdmin, the administrative interface for managing Novell Storage Manager, has been re-engineered to use the improved NSMAdmin interface for Novell eDirectory. Icons and dialogs have all been given an updated look. Additionally, the interface has been redesigned to be easier to use. For example, where an administrator had to previously perform certain tasks through multiple steps in NSMAdmin, many of these steps can now be addressed through a single form. In addition, a Quick Links tab lets you place and access your most frequently used management options.
Policy Reporting Enabled Through Novell File Reporter
Novell File Reporter helps organizations more effectively manage network storage by providing administrators the ability to access a comprehensive set of information about their network storage so that they can determine the best means of addressing their storage content. This information comes through reports detailing the files on network volumes, folder paths, and Linux mount points.
When Novell File Reporter is deployed with Novell Storage Manager 2.5 SP1, you can generate reports on Novell Storage Manager policy paths, providing you with reports on the user or collaborative data stored on the various storage target paths that are defined in a policy.
Storage Redistribution
When deployed in a Novell eDirectory environment, Novell Storage Manager 2.5 allows for policies to include storage distribution parameters for automatically distributing user and collaborative storage content when various thresholds for storage are met. Novell Storage Manager 2.5 SP1 adds the ability to redistribute the storage via a Management Action when storage needs to be rebalanced across multiple target paths.
This is a powerful new feature that can assure that user storage is optimized at all times, no matter what the state of the storage on the network.
Re-engineered Event Monitors for AD
In Active Directory environments, Novell Storage Manager 2.5 SP1 no longer requires that Event Monitors run on domain controllers.
Support for Windows Server 2008
Novell Storage Manager 2.5 SP1 has been engineered and thoroughly tested to support network environments that include Windows Server 2008.
